Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera), is also known as Indian Ginseng or Winter Cherry.
It is a medium-high shrub growing to a height of two meters. From the whole plant, only the root is used, which stimulates the vitality of the body. Its scent resembles that of a horse, which is why the herb is often called "Scent of the horse" (ashwa - horse, gandha - scent).
The Effects of Ashwagandha on Human Health
In ancient Indian writings it is celebrated as a rejuvenating agent and a regenerating tonic. Ashwagandha is primarily known as a powerful adaptogen - a substance that helps increase the body's resistance to tension and stress. Its calming effect is beneficial for chronic insomnia and nervous excitement. It is therefore used for mental disorders - stress, neurosis, schizophrenia, depression or paranoid states. At the same time, this herb restores strength during overwork, fatigue and exhaustion, supports memory, a clear mind and brain activity. It also helps with multiple sclerosis, low vision, optimises the lymphatic circulation and strengthens the immune system. Indian ginseng root also helps women during the menstrual cycle, infectious diseases and the removal of toxins from the liver. It is used for neuralgic back and spine pain and is used effectively in the treatment of oncological diseases.
Our Ashwagandha Preparations
Ashwagandha is one of the most commonly used Ayurvedic plants, which has a very wide range of therapeutic uses in various combinations with other herbs. In our handmade production in Nepal, we carefully dry its root and process it by hand and use it in several herbal blends. You can try our Ayurvedic Himalayan tea Ashwagandha for insomnia, sound sleep, natural relaxation and a harmonious state of mental health or as part of our Ayurvedic therapies where it is combined with Majjaprash to assist with Nervous Tension and Sleep.
Another option is to use it in a form of Ayurvedic Superfood Drink Amla & Ashwagandha - a finely ground powder of Ashwagandha mixed with Amla. This combination strengthens the immunity and provides deep regeneration of the body. You can use it as a hot drink with a teaspoon of honey or add it to fresh smoothies.
