According to Ayurveda, the purification of the body is a mean of regular maintenance and can therefore be performed in different forms at any time during the year. However, due to the natural change of seasons, which tend to increase respective bioenergies (doshas), cleansing is most needed at the end of winter and spring.
This period of year is dominated by kapha, a dosha formed from the element of water and earth. It causes spring malaise, obstruction and stagnation of waste products (ama), which the body has accumulated during periods of less exercise and greater need for food. This can be prevented by particular body cleansing. In our small series dedicated to easy spring detoxification, we offer you a suitable Ayurvedic treatment for a specific spring month.
To make your cleansing work, take one of the recommended treatments for 3 weeks, following the simple basic rules mentioned below. Then take a break for the 4th week and during the next month you can continue with a selection of other treatments that we will bring soon.

Ayurvedic Treatments Suitable for Spring I.
Choose from two options according to your own health condition and need:
Lymphatic System Detoxification
The lymph is part of the first human tissue called rasa. This basic body tissue in the form of a colorless fluid, which arises from the daily diet, is responsible for the nutrition of other tissues and it also includes white blood cells and blood serum. The lymphatic system removes harmful substances from the body, which accumulate in the lymph nodes and takes care of the body defense. Healthy and clean plasma tissue (rasa dhatu) is the basic starting point for the overall health of the body. Its function and quality can be supported by the Ayurvedic detoxification treatment, which contains Ayurvedic herbal tea Nagara and the nutritional herbal elixir Rasaprash.
Liver and Blood Detoxification
Blood (rakta), as the second tissue of the human body, nourished by rasa, distributes nutrition throughout the body and nourishes the muscles, fat, bones and joints, nervous system and the reproductive system. It carries the vital elements and substances, but also toxins, which are caused by insufficient food processing in the intestines, and antigens (substances that the body considers as foreign and produces antibodies against them). Important blood filtration that takes place in the liver works sufficiently only when the liver maintains its filtration capacity and for that, annual cleansing of the liver is necessary. This purpose is well served by the use of Ayurvedic detoxification treatment that contains the Ayurvedic herbal tea Kalamegha and the nutritional herbal elixir Raktaprash.
Preparation and Use of Ayurvedic Detoxification Therapy
Take Ayurvedic tea and herbal elixir at the same time every morning (on an empty stomach) and in the evening, and once again during the day, if possible. Always allow 2 hours gap after a larger meal before using the therapy and when using it before meal wait at least 30 minutes after it. Always boil the tea for 3-5 minutes, as it is much more effective than just infusing the herbal blend in hot water. One teaspoon of the mixture is intended for 250 ml of water (one cup). But you can boil more tea to make it for the whole day. Always drink tea warm (you can store it in a thermos). All you have to do is take the herbal elixir on a teaspoon and eat it. Take 1 teaspoon 2-3 times a day with Ayurvedic tea to drink. It is always good to have a sip together with the elixir, it is better absorbed. You can also drink it with warm water or vegetable milk. Unlike for revitalizing and regenerating treatments, we do not recommend to drink milk together wit purifying elixirs.
Recommended Daily Regime during the Purifying Therapy
The cleansing process in the body is naturally supported by physical activity, which in itself has natural detoxifying effects. It promotes sweating and the excretion of harmful substances from the body and brings oxygen and necessary nutrients to all cells. Along with it, it carries also prana - one of the three life energies (the other two are tejas and ojas), which maintains vital functions of the body such as respiration, cardiovascular and brain activity.
For cleansing, the most important time of the day is morning. Here are 3 basic steps you should follow after waking up:
- Empty yourselves and take a shower (the body eliminates waste products through the skin overnight).
- Drink a glass of warm water with lemon and take breathing exercises for 5 minutes, which will give you peace of mind and positive energy: breathe very slowly and quietly - so that if someone gave you a thin thread to your nose, it would not move. And when you exhale, try to exhale even slower than you inhaled.
- Drink a cup of purifying Ayurvedic tea along with a teaspoon of herbal elixir (then wait at least 30 minutes with breakfast before the herbal preparations are well absorbed).
During the therapy, we recommend easy running or fast walking at least 3 times a week. Go to bed before midnight.
Suitable Diet during Detoxification
During the detoxification, avoid meat and dairy foods. If you are used to them, try to significantly reduce their consumption - this in itself will be a relief for the body. Also try to reduce the supply of sweets with white sugar. Replace these delicacies with fresh or dried fruit without preservatives, unsalted nuts and fresh vegetables. Also keep a sufficient supply of clean water and omit alcohol and coffee from the drinks. Enrich your drinking regime with vegetable or fruit juices. The cleansing process can cause temporary uncomfortable feelings, which are associated with the excretion of toxins from the body. However, if you hold out, the purification treatment together with exercise and a light fresh diet will bring you more energy and stronger health. May your purification be succesful!
